Skörden är igång i Kalifornien

En lägesrapport kom i mejlådan häromdan - tur det, det är inte lätt at veta vad som händer i vingårdarna längst bort från oss.

MID-CRUSH REPORT:  2008 CALIFORNIA WINEGRAPE HARVEST
September 26, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO – Industry experts around the state are predicting that the California winegrape harvest will come in at 3 to 3.2 million tons for the 2008 season, compared to 3.24 millions tons harvested in 2007.  Winegrowers are reporting slightly lighter yields than usual, depending upon varieties and regions, and are pleased by the very good to excellent quality.  A dry winter and spring followed by spring frosts in some vineyards led to the lighter crop.
Harvest began mid August and is expected to continue through October and possibly November in cooler regions.  Currently, grapes are being picked in an orderly fashion because of the mild weather conditions.
